Premier League (PL) games have been tight at St James’ Park this season, with all four finishing with under 2.5 goals (W1, D2, L1), and three goalless at half-time. A 1-0 win over Manchester United in their last home match did give the ‘Magpies’ a second consecutive PL home clean sheet, as they now search for a third in a row for the first time since March 2018.
Six of Newcastle’s last eight PL victories have now been accompanied by a clean sheet, and with three of the hosts’ last four top-flight games witnessing no goal before the 70th minute, another solid defensive performance could be likely here.
