Newcastle coach Rafa Benitez will be looking to shake off his side’s poor start as he searches for his first win of the 2018/19 Premier League (PL) season (D1, L1). Three months have passed since ‘The Magpies’ sensationally beat Chelsea 3-0 on the final day of last season, which was also their last league win and only victory in seven PL games (W1, D1, L5).
Despite losing 2-1, Newcastle played well in their first game against 2017/18 top-four-finishers Tottenham but lacked momentum against Cardiff as they drew 0-0.
In contrast, Chelsea are currently in excellent form with two wins from their first two games after finishing last season in fourth fifth place. However, they could still struggle to get a win as in recent years this ground has proved to be quite unlucky. Since 2013, Chelsea have managed zero wins on their last five visits to St James’ Park (D1, L4).
