Since becoming the first team to lift the FA Cup at the new Wembley Stadium in May 2007, Chelsea have returned an excellent record of: W15, D3, L1, from home FA Cup ties against lower-league opposition. The club’s last three FA Cup home wins against lower-league opposition have also come with a clean sheet.
If bringing Premier League (PL) form into the mix, the signs point to Chelsea winning with ease, as the ‘Blues’ have scored in each half (and ‘won’ the second) in all of their last five home PL wins. That said, only one of Chelsea’s last three FA Cup home wins over lower-league opposition has seen them score in both halves.
The crux of Sheffield Wednesday’s success on the road seems to be scoring first, as they have gone on to lose by a margin of over 1.5 goals in the last three away games where they have conceded the opener. This probably lends extra importance to the fact that Sheffield Wednesday have scored first in seven of their last nine matches across all competitions.
