Home fans at the Allianz Arena will be expectant as their side hosts Schalke, a team Bayern Munich haven’t lost to since March 2011 (W14, D3 – all venues).
However a shock 3-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in Bayern’s last league outing, coupled with an extra-time cup victory over Hertha Berlin midweek, is not the kind of form the Bavarian outfit would like to take into this clash. The hosts are, at least, unbeaten in their last five Bundesliga home games (W3, D2), yet the fact remains that Bayern’s 42-point haul after 20 rounds is their worse tally at this stage of the season since 2011/12 (41 points).
Schalke come into this game after an impressive 4-1 home victory over Düsseldorf in the cup midweek, but are rank outsiders for this match. That’s a situation that usually doesn’t suit them – Schalke haven’t won any game this term where they started the match as an outsider (D4, L4).
However the visitors are unbeaten in their last four Bundesliga away games (W1, D3), but will have worries about their defence. ‘Die Königsblauen’ have conceded in their last 11 Bundesliga matches, whereas their hosts have scored in each of their last 13 league games.
