Jordan’s friendly action will be a key step for national team head coach Tan Cheng Hoe to find the best combination ahead of the second leg of the 2022 World Cup / Asia Cup 2023 qualification this September,
Cheng Hoe said the match against the team at the 99th place in the world – at Bukit Jalil National Stadium tomorrow night – was crucial and would affect the ranking of the Malayan Tiger squad.
He said it would also be the last platform for him to complete the list of 23 players in the qualifying round.
Malaysia placed in Group G will begin their qualifying campaign against Indonesia at Bung Karno Gelora Stadium, Jakarta, on Sept 5, before hosting a United Arab Emirates (UAE) visit at Bukit Jalil National Stadium five days later.
Cheng Hoe said his priority in the match against Jordan was to find the best team to form the strongest team in a three-point mission in Jakarta.
“(Facing Jordan) is a test match and I hope players realize what level of team we will meet tomorrow.
“We want good results and at the same time to get the best combination of the team.
“To this day, we are not sure what the main draw will be. But tomorrow’s game will be the last field to test and see the performance of the players, ”he said at a pre-match press conference against Jordan here in Kuala Lumpur today.
For the record, Malaysia and Jordan were tied to the net during their last meeting in a friendly match in Jordan in 2009.
Ahead of tomorrow’s meeting, Jordan is expected to drop his second squad after six of their nine key players have just arrived in Kuala Lumpur today, while three will continue to Taiwan from Jordan for the first round of qualifying.
The situation, however, did not affect Cheng Hoe’s plans.
“Whether they drop the second or first, we stay focused on our game. This is a great test for the team as Jordan’s game pattern is about the same as the UAE, ”said the 51-year-old.
