Preview
In this season’s first ‘Clash of the Champions’, the FL Championship winners Wolverhampton welcome reigning Premier League (PL) champions Manchester City.
Nuno Espírito Santo’s Wolves scored the most, conceded the least and finished nine points ahead of their closest competition in last season’s Championship, clinching the title in style. The PL season has not started as hoped, as Wolves have just one point from their two first matches despite having a one-man advantage in nearly half of their first 180 minutes in this PL stint.
Manchester City are on the hunt to become the first champions to defend the PL crown successfully since 2009, and have started with two wins. Wolves will surely know that City broke the record for most away wins (16) in a 38-game PL season.
Last season, City won 19 of the first 20 matches, including all of their first ten away matches. Home and away, they also won five out of six matches against the newly promoted teams, with the last of the six being a draw, played out long after the title was secured.
Players to watch: It is arguably midfield dynamo Ruben Neves that has impressed the most for Wolves so far. He has a goal and an assist to his name already.
Sergio Agüero is a club legend for City with over 200 club goals, and he netted a hat-trick in the last PL round.
