The Premier League (PL) returns as Manchester United (eighth) welcome Crystal Palace (16th) to Old Trafford still reeling from their 3-1 defeat in the Manchester derby before the international break.
Despite a superb win away to Juventus (2-1) in the Champions League earlier this month, United (W6, D2, L4) are already 12 points behind the league leaders and the usual fortress that is Old Trafford has not seen a clean sheet in the PL this season – with eight goals conceded in five games. Overall (home and away) just four teams have let in more this season than United’s 21.
United will be confident coming into this fixture however, as the visitors have lost their last three PL away games and have failed to win any of their last seven matches in all competitions (D1, L6). Palace are just three points from the bottom of the league, have not kept a clean sheet in their last six PL matches, and have scored just eight goals all season.
In their last 12 H2H encounters in the PL, United are undefeated (W10, D2) and have won all six clashes at Old Trafford (five of them to nil) – scoring 16 and conceding just two goals. Despite the one-sided record, Palace will take heart from their last H2H encounter which was 2-2 until an injury-time winner for United.
Players to watch: Anthony Martial is United’s top scorer with six goals in his last five matches (PL), whilst former-United striker Wilfried Zaha is the danger man for Palace (three goals and an assist).
Stat attack: Eight of United’s last ten matches (in all competitions) have produced 2.5+ goals.
Palace have conceded first in six of their last seven matches (in all competitions).
At home, United have kept just five clean sheets in their last 20 matches (in all competitions), 12 of which saw both teams score.
