Iran take on 2010 World Cup (WC) winners Spain at the Kazan Arena in their second Group B game of Russia 2018.
The Iranians got their WC campaign off to a dream start after beating Morocco 1-0 courtesy of a dramatic 95th-minute own goal. It was their first WC win in 20 years and only their second-ever victory in the history of the tournament after they beat the United States in 1998. Ahead of Wednesday’s fixtures, Iran sit alone atop Group B – two points clear of Portugal and Spain.
Spain head to Kazan off the back of a thrilling 3-3 draw with Portugal in Sochi in their first game under new boss Fernando Hierro. The Spanish squad put in an impressive display, but huge goalkeeping errors combined with a terrific performance by superstar Cristiano Ronaldo cost them dear. Spain’s unbeaten run now stands at a whopping 21 games in all competitions (W14, D7).
