Internazionale, once seemingly anchored to the Champions League (CL), have spent the last six years out of Europe’s premier competition. They now make their return in Group B alongside Barcelona, PSV and first matchday opponents Tottenham.
The ‘Nerazzurri’ fare well at home against English opposition, having won 66% of their continental home games (including Europa League) against Premier League clubs (W10, D3, L2). They have however, failed to win at home this Serie A season (D1, L1), most recently losing to Parma.
Their opponents will be a tough test, having topped a CL group last season that included Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. Tottenham won two and drew two away from home that tournament, including a 2-2 Round of 16 draw at Juventus.
‘Spurs’ have not won any of their last four competitive visits to Italy (D3, L1). Their last away victory in the country came in the 2010/11 CL Round of 16, where they defeated AC Milan 1-0.
