It’s matchday two in Group C of the World Cup (WC) as Denmark and Australia go head to head at the Cosmos Arena in Samara.
Denmark were at times on the ropes against Peru in their first match, but came away with a 1-0 win. Coach Åge Hareide was happy with his team’s hard work, but also added that he thought they looked overwhelmed by the occasion, and at times even “afraid”.
Standing Group C:
- France 3 points
- Denmark 3 points
- Australia 0 Points
- Peru 0 points.
Having started with a win, the Danes could take a huge step toward qualifying for the knockout-stages in this match. Should France beat Peru in the other match in Group C, a win here will send them through.
Australia fought valiantly against the French but in the end suffered a 2-1 defeat, courtesy of an 81st minute own goal. In a competition as brutal as the WC, the pressure is on to dig out a win for the popular Socceroos.
