With the odds slashed on his stay at Old Trafford, José Mourinho takes his under-fire Manchester United side to Turf Moor looking for some breathing space in the Premier League (PL) before the international break.
This is the first time since 1992/93 that United have lost two of their opening three games. With all eyes on the unrest in the squad and the future of their boss, they need full points to keep pace with the pack of leaders, already six points ahead.
Defensive shambles cost United both their losses, but they are still no closer to finding their best central defensive combination. They have won just thrice in their last eight PL trips (W3, D1, L4), failing to score a goal in four of those.
Burnley are mired in their own problems, as they remain winless in normal time in nine competitive fixtures this season (D6, L3). It gets worse in the PL as they are winless in eight games (D3, L5) and the ‘Ginger Mourinho’, Sean Dyche, is sailing in the same boat.
‘The Clarets’ (BUR) are winless at home in four PL matches (D1, L3) and in just three of their last 21 home PL games have they managed to score more than one goal – including failing to score in six of them.
Players to watch: James Tarkowski has scored two of Burnley’s three goals so far, while Luke Shawhas been the lone bright spark for United.
Stat attack: There have been under 2.5 goals in nine of Burnley’s last ten PL home games against United.
Both teams scored goals in just two of the last nine matches between these sides.
United are winless in three away PL games (D1, L2) and the last time they went four without a road win was in December 2015
.
United are unbeaten in seven matches against Burnley (W4, D3) with five clean sheets.
