With Bayern Munich chasing table toppers Dortmund, home fans will be happy for this visit by Stuttgart to the Allianz Arena. That’s because Bayern have won every game bar one against them since December 2010 (W17, L1), although that one upset was a 4-1 hammering in last season’s Bundesliga fixture here.
The hosts continue to gather momentum having won their last six Bundesliga games, keeping a clean sheet in four, as well as winning four by half-time. Whilst interestingly, across this league campaign, Bayern have netted the opener in every match they’ve scored in except one.
In contrast, visiting Stuttgart have conceded the opener in 78% of their league fixtures this term, and have lost seven of their nine Bundesliga away games (W1, D1, L7), losing six of those ‘to nil’.
In fact, Markus Weinzierl’s relegation threatened side have now trailed at the break in their last four Bundesliga matches, and overall, have the division’s second-worst defence this season (38 goals conceded). That, coupled with the fact Bayern can boast the Bundesliga’s second-best attack (39 goals scored), doesn’t bode well for the visitors here.
Players to watch: Bayern’s leading Bundesliga scorer this term, Robert Lewandowski, has 11 goals and five assists so far. Meanwhile, veteran German forward Mario Gómez leads Stuttgart’s scoring charts with five league goals and a lone assist.
Stat attack: Bayern have netted in each of their last 11 Bundesliga matches; they scored three or more goals in six of those games.
Stuttgart have been drawing 0-0 at half-time in more than half (56%) of their away league games this season.
Not one of Bayern’s eight Bundesliga home matches have featured a goal from the 61st-75th minute period.
