Frank Lampard’s managerial baptism of fire last weekend made it one Premier League (PL) win in six for Chelsea (W1, D3, L2). All of the games won/lost either way in that sequence have seen the victor win the second half to-nil by a margin of over 1.5 goals.
However, Chelsea is unbeaten in nine home league outings (W6, D3), following a 1-0 defeat to Leicester back in Dec 2018, which came courtesy of a second-half goal. Notably, each of Chelsea’s last eight PL home wins has seen them win the second half ‘to-nil’.
Leicester’s aforementioned win here was their only PL victory away to ‘top-six’ opposition last campaign (W1, D1, L4). That noted, they failed to score in just one of those games (May 6), and lost both halves only once (Feb 10).
The Foxes’ last league trip to Stamford Bridge is also one of just two PL visits here, within the last eight, that have seen the distribution of points change between half-time and full-time.
Players to watch: After missing a crucial penalty mid-week (for the UEFA Super Cup), Tammy Abraham (CHE) will be aiming to redeem himself. Ironically, two of his last three league goals in England have been second-half penalties.
Jamie Vardy scored Leicester’s winner here last season. His last 13 PL goals have all arrived in the second half, with ten coming beyond the hour mark.
Stat attack: Chelsea’s last two PL score draws here have seen all of the goals arrive in the same half, with the visitors on the day scoring first.
Both teams have scored in seven of Leicester’s last eight PL away matches. A majority (four) of those seven have seen the match’s second goal constitute an equalizer
.
Nearly half (three) of the last seven league H2Hs here have seen the half-time scoreline go unchanged in the second half.
