Though yet to win a Premier League (PL) home assignment this term, Tottenham has scored exactly once beyond the 76th-minute mark in four of their last five league wins across all venues. They will also be buoyed by a strong all-time derby record over West Ham (W98, D52, L64), which dates back to 1898.
The first Football League H2H at White Hart Lane took place in March 1920, ending 2-0 in Tottenham’s favor. A century on, last season’s corresponding fixture produced the same scoreline with one goalless half, taking Tottenham’s average win margin across PL home victories attained over West Ham since 2008 to 2.14.
The above margin grants extra relevance to the fact that eight (44.44%) of West Ham’s last 18 PL away defeats against all opponents have produced a 2-0 scoreline. However, West Ham visits Tottenham after two straight PL wins by a 3+ goal landslide, which extended a run where each of their last four PL victories has seen them score first inside the opening 20 minutes.
Each of West Ham’s four wins attained within their current 15-game PL away form has yielded a clean sheet. However, that sequence contains nine defeats (including a run of seven straight) from which the ‘Hammers’ averaged a losing margin of 1.56 goals. That is notably close to their average margin of defeat across their last six PL derby losses v ‘Spurs’ (1.50).
Players to watch: With a double at Old Trafford, Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min went into the October international break as the PL’s joint-top scorer. Going back to the start of 2018/19, three of his last five PL braces have seen his goals straddle both halves.
West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen rounded off the 3-0 win at Leicester (Oct 4). Across all tiers, each of Bowen’s last six away league goals have seen the FT points distribution to match that of the time at which he scored.
Hot stat: West Ham have averaged 1.0 goals conceded beyond the hour mark across their last seven PL away defeats to end 2-0.
