Rock-bottom Leganes welcome table toppers Barcelona to the Estadio Municipal de Butarque in what many expect to be the most one sided game in this La Liga (LL) matchday. This will be only the fifth meeting between the sides, with the Catalan visitors boasting a 100% record against Leganes.
Since being promoted to LL for the first time in their history in 2015/16, Leganes have finished 17th in each of their two seasons at the top. However, this term has seen them pick up just a single point from their first five games (D1, L4), cementing their worst-ever top flight start.
Opposing managers Mauricio Pellegrino (Leganes) and Ernesto Valverde (Barcelona) have met twice before. Surprisingly, the Leganes manager is unbeaten against his counterpart (W1, D1). However, Pellegrino did mastermind a shock 2-1 victory over Barcelona with former club Alaves in 2016.
Barcelona dropped their first points of the season last time out, although they had to show character, taking a draw from a losing position with just ten men. That said, the Catalans won’t be too worried about coming to a venue in which they have scored eight goals across their only two visits so far.
Players to watch: 6’1” striker Guido Carrillo (Leganes) has won the most aerial duels in LL so far (56). His only goal of the season came against another LL team currently in the Champions League, namely Real Madrid.
In typical fashion, Lionel Messi has had a blistering start to the campaign, scoring eight goals in his last six Barcelona appearances!
Stat attack: Leganes have had two or fewer corners in three of their five LL games this season.
Leganes have been losing at both half-time and full-time in all four of their meetings with Barcelona to date.
Twelve of Barcelona’s last 14 LL games have produced over 2.5 goals in total.
