Its a match day, second round after first round is complete, jdt in second place, while sharing points with persija jakarta 4 points, win by jdt by rules head to head. So, hopefully the tournament vs at Larkin Stadium hopefully its not a big problem for us to win this game.
Group H .
Standing Table Group H.
- Song Lam Nghe An 7 points
- JDT 4 points
- Persija Jakarta 4 points
- Tampines Rovers 1points.
A must-win match for Johor Darul Ta’zim‘s (JDT) continental hopes.
Failure to win could either see Song Lam Nghe An pull away at the top or Indonesia’s Persija Jakarta move into second if either of those sides win their match-up in Indonesia on Wednesday. So this match , its compulsory to win if want to stay challenge in AFC cup. But still in games and there must be a difficult in the next match.
The Vietnamese side lead the group on seven points while JDT and Persija have four points each. The Malaysians are in second because of their head-to-head record following the 3-0 win over Persija on the opening day.
Raul Longhi’s men will want to avoid a repeat of 2017, when JDT only squeezed out of the group as the best second-placed team among the three regional groups.
JDT will be pleased to return to Larkin after four consecutive away matches across all competitions. While they won two of those matches, they weren’t entirely convincing, needing extra time to overcome second tier Sabah in the FA Cup (2-1) ET and a Marcos Antonio winner to defeat Terengganu 1-0 in the Malaysia Super League (MSL).
The Stags, who have yet to begin their S.League campaign, struggled in the opening two matches but they may have some confidence at the back after shutting out JDT in the reverse fixture just last week.
With stakes higher now, Longhi is expected to name a stronger line-up than in their trip to Singapore last week.
Safiq Rahim could return to the line-up after being benched in the 1-0 win over Terengganu on Saturday, while Luciano Figueroa’s injury-enforced absence means the club does not have a single foreign attacker available. JDT have struggled creatively at the top following Jorge Pereyra Diaz’s sudden departure while Gonzalo Cabrera is not registered for this competition.
Tampines, meanwhile, have a clean bill of health. Canadian Jordan Webb could be given his first start this season after injury hampered his return to the club after one season with Warriors FC.
PLAYERS TO WATCH.
Safiq Rahim (JDT): It was a big surprise to see the Malaysia captain on the bench against Terengganu as Natxo Insa skippered the team. Plenty more questions will be asked if Safiq does not start this one.
He has been the club’s best player on the continental stage and added some bite to his side after coming on at half-time when these two teams last met.
Daniel Bennett (Tampines): The English-born centre-back was rock solid against JDT in the last match and at 40 years old, that’s outstanding.
He has bags of experience dealing with raucous crowds from his time with the Singapore national team, so he shouldn’t be overawed by the environment. Getting past him will be key for the local forwards in the JDT line-up.
FACTS AND FIGURES
- JDT haven’t tasted an AFC Cup defeat on home soil once since 2015. Their last home defeat in any competition dates back to a Malaysia Cup loss to Felda United that same year.
- Only South China (2015) and Bengaluru (2016) have avoided an AFC Cup defeat in Larkin in that time, both managing 1-1 draws.
- Tampines have lost six of their last eight AFC Cup matches. The two times they didn’t lose were against Malaysian sides.
- The Stags got a win on their last trip to Malaysia, defeating Felda United 3-1 in Selayang in last year’s group stage.
